About the Site
RentalCarPerks.com is a US-focused car rental comparison and education resource. We help travelers find the best deals across major rental brands, understand how the industry works, and make confident booking decisions — without getting hit with unexpected fees or upsells at the counter. The site is built on 25+ years of firsthand car rental industry experience, including senior roles at Alamo Rent A Car and Worldspan (now Travelport).
Yes — with a significant update. The original site launched in the early 2010s and offered exclusive discount codes negotiated directly with Avis, Budget, and Hertz. That model worked well at the time, but the industry changed and the site went dormant in 2019. We're relaunching in 2026 with a modernized approach — moving from a coupon-code model to a full comparison and education resource. Same founder, same mission, completely rebuilt.
RentalCarPerks.com was founded by Patrick Walters, a 25-year car rental industry veteran. Patrick spent 14 years at Alamo Rent A Car in roles spanning reservations management, loyalty program marketing, airline and hotel partnerships, and Senior Marketing Manager of the corporate rental and Quicksilver Express programs. He was subsequently recruited to Worldspan (now Travelport), where he rose to Director of Advertising and Ground Transportation, managing relationships with car rental companies domestically and internationally. We are actively building out the full site now, with a targeted launch in 2026. Content in development includes airport-specific guides for major US destinations, side-by-side brand comparisons, loyalty program breakdowns, and booking strategy guides. Sign up to be notified the moment we go live.
How It Works
No. RentalCarPerks.com is a comparison and information resource — we do not book, process, or store any reservation data. When you click through to book, you are taken directly to the rental brand's or booking platform's own website, where your reservation is handled entirely by them. We never see your payment information, personal details, or booking confirmation.
We earn a small commission when you book through affiliate links on our site. This is a standard practice in travel publishing — the rental brand or booking platform pays us a percentage of the completed booking at no additional cost to you. Our affiliate relationships never influence which brands or deals we feature. We recommend what we believe is genuinely best for the traveler, based on our industry expertise.
No — you pay exactly the same price you would booking directly. In many cases, booking platforms we link to aggregate rates from multiple suppliers, which can surface lower prices than going directly to a brand's website. The commission we earn comes from the brand or platform, not from any markup to your booking.
Since RentalCarPerks.com does not process reservations, all reservation, vehicle, billing, or service issues should be directed to the rental brand or booking platform you booked through. If your rental is in progress, contact the rental location directly. If your rental is complete, contact the customer service department of the brand you rented from.
Saving Money
There's no single answer — it depends on your trip, dates, and destination. The most consistent strategies our founder has seen work over 25 years in the industry: book early and rebook if prices drop (most reservations are free to cancel), use a credit card that includes rental car coverage to skip the counter insurance upsell, enroll in free loyalty programs at brands you use frequently, and compare aggregator platforms like RentalCars.com before booking directly. Our guides will walk through each of these in detail at launch.
In most cases, no — but it depends on your existing coverage. Many major credit cards include rental car collision damage waiver (CDW) coverage when you pay with that card. Your personal auto insurance policy may also extend to rental cars. Before your next rental, call your credit card issuer and your auto insurer to confirm exactly what's covered. The counter agent is not the right person to ask — their job is to sell you the coverage. Our insurance guide at launch will walk through the most common coverage scenarios in plain English.
Yes — and they're free. Every major rental brand offers a loyalty program that provides at minimum a faster pickup experience (skipping the counter line) and often free upgrades, bonus points, and exclusive rates. If you rent even a few times a year, enrolling in the programs for the brands you use most costs nothing and consistently delivers value. Our founder spent years managing loyalty program marketing at Alamo — we'll have detailed breakdowns of every major program at launch.
Partnerships & Business
This is something we are exploring for the relaunched site. Our founder has deep experience in corporate rental program development, including managing Alamo's corporate discount and Quicksilver Express programs. If you represent a company, association, or group interested in a corporate rental resource or partnership, reach out via our Contact page and we'll be in touch.
The best way is to sign up for our email list on the homepage. We'll notify you as soon as the full site goes live and send periodic updates on new content, guides, and deals as they become available. We won't spam you — emails will only go out when there's something genuinely useful to share.
